Colour Palettes

40's Colour:
Usually only 2/3 colours were used to minimise cost
The top two rows were typical colours used for public information posters. Bold an eye catching throughout the time of WWII.
The bottom row is typical colours used by designer Paul Rand. White space was a key element within his work but he also used black and primary spot colour text...

50's Colour:
Pastel colours were dominantly used during this decade.
They were used to tint photographs, as spot colours, and as decorative borders to create focus.
Black was kept to a minimum, just in monochrome photos and illustration outlines.
Gignham and Houndstooth pattern were also used within design work.

 60's Colour:
The 60's was a tiem for change. Their hippie sentiments, psychedelic and pop art, with their bold forms and bright colours reflected a buoyant mood. The designers were influenced by the colours of the rainbow. Gradients, halftone patterns and dadaist collage were also used to create the flamboyant style.

Icons of the decades

After my tutorial with Lorenzo over reading week, and speaking about my makeup range inspired by Marilyn Monroe and the 50's, the direction I have chosen to take is to create a range of products from different decades, focusing on a beauty icon from each one.
The decades I have chosen are 40's, 50's, and 60's as they each have different styles, colours, typefaces that made them reflect that particular decade.

For my influences for each decade:
My icon form the 40's - Lara Turner, an American acrtress
My icon from the 50's - Marilyn Monroe, also and American Movie Star (The most famous woman of the 20th century)
My chosen icon from the 60' - Twiggy (born Leslie Horn) was the face of 1966 and by all counts the top model of the sixties

I wanted to make a quick decison so I have chosen to use the word Beauty and the image of a woman's face, to sum up my other brief.

'Wrap It Up' The Grenade Brief

The Brief:
Identify, select and clarify 'What is Good' brief in: 1 word and 1 image (sum it up)
Choose one net from each group of three nets (so should have 5 nets)
Investigate, research and analyse the nets, then choose 3 out of the 5 nets originally chosen.
Then create 3 complete packaging solutions using the word and image, to communicate with the audience.

For my 'What is Good' brief, it is all based on women and beauty, so for the word I have chosen 'make-up', for the image I have an image of a womans face with make-up on.
