Starting the Optional Module, I was introduced to the prodgramme QuarkXPress, which I have never used before, however after this session I realised it is quite easy to get the hang of, as it is similar to InDesign. The first task was to use the inital from my first name in lower-case, and the initial from my surname in upper-case, choose different typefaces for them and then describe them in terms of their formal attributes...
We then had to create patterns using the initials in the typefaces from the first task. It was interesting to see everyone elses patterns, and how we had all differently joined our own letterms together (e.g. joining serif's or stems) and making the pattern more abstract so that you can only just make out which letter is being used.
For next weeks session we all had to choose a different Serif typeface, and choose one letter that had key characteristics, so then you would be able to identify the typeface. And describe the formal attributes.
This shoule be done on A4 in PDF format.
