What is a line?

Line: ''A formation of people, objects or things, on/besides/behind eachother.''

A few bits form the sketchbook

After researching into artists and ways of communicating the word line, I chose to focus on people. I thought of police line ups and mug shots and began drawing peoples faces. To make it as accurate as possible i drew them over a grid. I like how they look in a row next to eachother, I think this would look better if there was alot of drawings of different faces.

Another form of line on humans is the lines on your hands. I like how palm readings can show that these lines have specific meaning.

Another use of hands is sign language, here is the word line using the sign language alphabet.

Photographing the left eye of different people.

I liked the use of grids, as the lines are in rows and collumns. This reminded me of pixels and I used a photograph of one of the mugshots and pixelated it. For each of the 'pixels' I used different images of different peoples eyes for the eyes, noses for the nose, lips for the lips and so on. I quite like this idea. I chose to pritn this in on a large scale (A1) as when you are close up you can see the 'pixel' images', and when you move away the image of the face is clear to see.

Visual Language

After collecting a range of images based upon light switches, I then took the idea of having pairs together, and began photographing them outside of college. Here are a few of my images:

Visual Language - Studio Lighting Brief

We had to produce 10 photographic images using our objects to represent our given colour (Green). We had to consider colour theory, and how images can be affected when different colours are used together.
Here are my 10 chosen images:

For this task we had to create timelines based upon information from daily and yearly routines, and one off events. We had to create 'pictograms' and create a key to show what they meant. We did this task in pairs, so my routine pictograms are in drawn in pink and my Sarah's in blue.

Visual Language - What is a line?

Using the manipulation of line, frame, format, media and colour, I have to produce a body of work that visually investigates one of the following definitions of the word ''line'':

''A formation of people, objects or things on besides/behind eachother.''
''A connected series of events, actions or developments.''
''A mark indicating position, connection or boundaries.''

To help me decide upon which quote to use I have researched and found 3 examples of each one:

''A formation of people, objects or things on besides/behind eachother.''

''A connected series of events, actions or developments.''

''A mark indicating position, connection or boundaries.''

Using a book I brought in, I had to interpret the title of the book by cutting or folding the pages. My book was called 'Tackling Computer Projects', so I decided to create a laptop consisting of a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I thought this was a good idea as I could have the book open as you would have a laptop. I really liked some of the artists work that we were shown during the lesson and I will research into some of these artists.

We had to bring in 10 items of a certain colour. Mine was green. Then we were allocated groups with the same colour. We then had to arrange our objects into some sort of order, that showed the range of the colour green. We did this depending on the hue, started from blue/greens, to true greens, to yellow/greens. This was quite hard as some objects had different tones and shades so we began to work outwards from lighter to darker.

We then had to chose 10 objects from our complete range, of a variety of different hues, that we could then use the pantone colour swatches to find out there correct pantone value. Some of the colours were hard to match up as they wer reflecting light.

Visual Language 8/12/09

In this weeks visual language we were sent out in groups of two, to collect 100 photos of a specific subject. Me and Niall had been given plug sockets. With it being quite a simple subject, I decided to try and make the images more interesting by including what the plugs sockets were being used for. I found these worked better than just the sockets alone, and I also considered the composition of my images. I particularly like the images that are close up in one point and then extend further away from you as more of their surroundings are being captured.
Here are my favourite 25 images:

As a group we all collected items of a certain colour, and aranged them in a circle by colour of hue. My colour was green, so I had to then choose a few green objects, and also objects from its complimentary colour (red).

Concentrating on which colours contrast and compliment eachother, I had to use the objects with coloured paper to experiment with and find different combinations.
