Laurel Leaves

I found that the Laurel Leaves are used within the LCA mosaic that represents the College.
These leaves are recognised as a symbol of achievement, which makes them relative for graduation and also for LCA.
For the previous promotional designs a felt they were lacking a visual element and this could be it, even if just on a small scale.
I have drawn a few laurel wreaths that could be used within my promotional material.

Vectoroised:
I scanned in my drawing and live traces them in Illustrator.
I changed the threshold of these 4 laurel leaves to see if there was much difference in the pattern.

I found that the ones with a higher threshold were more suitable, because you can still define the leaves:

Brief 1 - Concept Design Ideas

Here are some designs for the concept of having Graduation represent the creativity of the graduands time at LCA. The design consists of a blank white canvas with paint splatters and lines that represent the creative freedom and expressiveness that students are allowed when exploring who they are as designers and artists.

The image I have borrowed off the internet just top show what it would look like:

I think these are good visuals and represent 'art'. I could even try writing with paint, or drawing a particular image.

Graduation Ceremony Ideas

Organising my thoughts and some important considerations about LCA Graduation, pointing things out about Leeds Town Hall, Promotional Material, Target Audience, Graduation and Leeds College of Art:

Focusing on what Graduation is all about, including what it really means to people (e.g. celebration, reward at the end of the tunnel, and end of an era), and is a reminder for their experiences at college for years to come.

Promotional Material considerations - looking at what imagery could be used to represent graduation.

It is important to realise that the promotional material is going to be a keepsake and that the graduates will keep them to remind them of their time at LCA and as recognition of their achievements. This means it needs to be special and important, and also sustainable:

Design Strategy Presentation

Here are the slides used for my design strategy presentation .I discussed what I want to focus on doing over the third year, by reflecting on past experiences and finding what I am about.

I received some feedback to include the work of people that inspire me, and contexts that I would like to see my work in, to make it more visually engaging.

Feedback for D&AD North Poster

Looking at each others posters we gave each other feedback on:

Does it answer the brief?
What is it doing?
Is it well executed?

-The feedback I received was to move the address up to the top under the date and time, so it can be read all together. It looked as if it was alone and out of the way at the bottom right hand side.
-There is a typo between 'Eurostar,Virgin Galactic' - needs a space.
-Info on the type wheel can be mad onto less lines, as it is the last on the hierarchy list.
-The date and address can be smaller due to the size of the poster being A1.
-Try a colour instead of white background - black?

Taking this feedback on board I made some changes to my design. I also got rid of the slice which had the D&AD colour and logo, and used their hexagon shape. I felt like it was making D&AD a part of GBH's work so I separated them. I also prefer the black as it puts emphasis on the colour wheel:

I moved the logo closer the the colour wheel which makes it look more involved, and the colour is the same as the logo:

This reminded me of the degress symbol, so I rearranged my type to the left hand side and the D&AD to the right so it reflects this. And goes with the North theme (coordinates):

I then vertically centralised the content as there was a lot of negative space at the bottom. I feel this is now a balanced design and works clearly and delivers the right message.

I then thought about how it would look just black and yellow to keep with the D&AD colours, rather than the full colour wheel:

I prefer this. This is the design I have chosen use as my entry for the poster competition:
