Brief 4 -wAven - Concept Ideas

WAVEN is a brand that reflects the process of denim making (woven), and has the peculiarity of the Swedish A. Here I looked into the process of weaving and how denim is made.

Denim is a rugged cotton twill textile, in which the weft is passes under two of the warp threads - this produces the diagonal ribbing identifiable on the reverse of the fabric, which distinguishes denim from cotton duck. It was originally called Serge de Nimes. And the word jeans comes from the French word for Genoa, Italy (Genes) where the first denim trousers where made.

I looked into the meaning of 'woven' (weave) and the different types of twill. This could be used to name the denim ranges. The different types of twill come with the different combinations of the warp and weft, and the angles of them.

- 2/1 twill weave
-broken twill
-zig-zag twill
-reverse twill
-right hand twill
-left hand twill
-alternating mixed twill
-double-weaves
-w-weaves

The concept of WAVEN is that is reflects the process of making denim (woven) and has Swedish heritage (through the use of the Swedish A - peculiarity) the A is pronounced 'O'.
Thinking about how to link it to Sweden I thought about the use of colour -their flag is blue with a yellow cross, I could look into the historical side of Sweden to find about more of the kind of country it is.

I also thought about link the evolution of denim to the evolution as Sweden.

The brand needs to portray Swedish heritage - Swedishesque - and have some kind of link to the country itself.
